Transfer to the economic world
CESI LINEACT implements a proactive policy of valorization of research products.
Massification of research valorization: strategies and objectives of CESI LINEACT
The creation of technical and administrative divisions within CESI LINEACT will enable us to massively increase the value of our research and develop a policy of valorizing research products through research contracts with companies, the exploitation of research results through patents or operating licenses, the mobility of researchers between the academic world and companies, and the creation of or participation in companies by our researchers.
CESI has already initiated commercialization activities through some of its chairs, which are based on research contracts between CESI LINEACT and the company. 6 patents have been filed, and CESI LINEACT is going to build on this momentum by setting itself the target of allocating 30% of its budget to technology transfer activities by 2030.
By 2030, 15% of the budget will come from technology transfer, thanks to the joint actions of the technological research unit and the technology transfer unit. This objective should enable the unit to join the Carnot institute network.
Each researcher will be assigned non-research time to promote research activities in training programs. The unit in charge of commercialization will lead activities designed to create interactive links between scientific production, technology, economic needs and training activities, and will monitor current regulations in order to identify products that can be commercialized.
In fact, the national policy for the management of value-added activities will govern the type of research that can be valorized and the form of valorization. It will identify the technical advances expected by economic players, and match them with the unit’s output. These two elements will make it possible to prioritize and decide on the areas in which CESI LINEACT should concentrate its commercialization efforts. This strategy will reduce the dispersion of efforts on small contracts.
Commercialization also involves developing the entrepreneurial spirit that we hope to foster among our members between now and 2030.
Towards territorial and collaborative valorization
This entrepreneurial spirit is also stimulated by the local environment, which has roadmaps specific to territorial needs. CESI LINEACT will therefore play an advisory role in adapting the valorization initiative to the territories, and will set up seminars and working groups to achieve the target set for 2030.
CESI LINEACT will also set up participative research initiatives involving CESI’s partner companies, with a view to stimulating and anticipating society’s needs.
Lastly, CESI LINEACT considers that, in the evaluation of its members, a value-added product is of the same importance as the production of a paper for an international conference. To support the development of this activity, the unit is considering joining the CURIE network, in order to benefit from the network’s expertise, services and leadership.
