Effective thermal management is essential for ensuring the safety and durability of electric vehicle (EV) battery systems. This study presents a Reli-ability-Based Design Optimization (RBDO) framework for PCM-based heat sinks, simultaneously optimizing their geometry and material selection under uncertain-ties in heat load, ambient temperature, and material properties. Numerical solu-tions show drastic reductions in peak temperatures and improved thermal homo-geneity, with high reliability under random conditions. The results show that both the arrangement of PCM and its interface with battery cells have a crucial impact on optimal performance. This study demonstrates the significant potential of com-bining Reliability-Based Design Optimization (RBDO) with PCM-based thermal management to develop efficient and reliable thermal management systems for EV battery packs.
