This paper presents a model of parasitic effects on passive components (resistor,
inductor or capacitor) with low or high impedances in large band frequencies. Previous work [1]
allowed characterizing passive components using reflection parameter (S 11 ) measurements. Here,
it is shown that this technique is not appropriated for components with low and high impedance.
In this work, another methodology is proposed based on transmission parameter (S 21 ). From
measurements of this parameter using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA), the input impedance is
determined. Then, the equivalent electric schemes (resistance, inductance, and capacitance) are
determined using an optimization method. To validate this methodology, different passive
components have been tested. Finally, a graphic interface to help users to calculate the model is
developed.
