This article proposes a framework for evaluating the maturity of BIM-based augmented and virtual reality systems by defining indicators based on the ISO/IEC 15939 standard. These indicators aim to provide a more comprehensive assessment of system maturity by combining results from various measurements, while differentiating between sub-criteria, criteria, and maturity aspects. This framework not only defines the indicators but also presents a process for interpreting the results, while preserving the raw measurement data to identify maturity-related issues and recommend mechanisms for transitioning between different levels. To illustrate the application of the framework, the article presents an example of defining a maturity indicator related to the technology criterion. Furthermore, a feasibility study was conducted by academic experts to validate the proposed framework. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the indicators in assessing the maturity of BIM-based AR/VR systems. This research contributes to the field by providing a comprehensive framework for evaluating system maturity and offering new perspectives. Future works are focused on implementing the proposed indicators in real-world scenarios and exploring additional dimensions of maturity assessment to further enhance the evaluation process.
