Comparative Study of Waste Management Systems in Algeria and Other Countries : a literature review

Waste management holds significant importance for developing countries due to its impact on the environment, health, and economy. Insufficient waste management practices can result in pollution, disease outbreaks, greenhouse gas emissions, and social conflicts. Consequently, developing countries must make strategic decisions to enhance their waste management systems and practices. This article aims to examine waste management in developed countries such as Singapore, Sweden, Germany, and Japan, and compare their approaches to the situation in Algeria. The primary objective is to assess the disparities between these countries' strategies, with the intention of identifying successful practices and potential areas for improvement in Algeria. The document explores scientific research and academic contributions in the field of waste management, presents various types of waste, and analyzes the infrastructure, technologies, and methods utilized for waste collection, sorting, recycling, and disposal. Additionally, it reviews pertinent policies, departments, and agencies in each country, focusing on specific laws and regulations related to waste management. The comparative study yields insights into the strengths and weaknesses of Algeria's waste management system in comparison to other countries. Noteworthy practices identified elsewhere are discussed, emphasizing opportunities for knowledge transfer and the implementation of best practices in Algeria.
