The recent technological advancements have transformed modern supply chains into complex networks. Consequently, today's supply chain systems are facing several challenges, including limited visibility in both upstream and downstream supply chains, lack of trust among the different stakeholders, as well as transparency and traceability. The application of the Internet of Things can enable companies to enhance traceability, monitoring, and overall supply chain optimization. On the other hand, Blockchain technology can enhance reliability, transparency and efficiency in modern supply chain systems. In this regard, understanding the connections between these two technologies within the context of supply chain, along with studying and classifying the relevant recent solutions, provide a useful framework for researchers and professionals aiming to develop a smart supply chain.
